Books in Homes Australia hosted its first 54-hole golf challenge to great success on Monday 16 November, 2015. Riverside Oaks Golf Resort was the venue to 40 golfers that started playing at 6.30am and finished 54 Holes in a day by completing the event around 6.30pm.
The day started with 2 Ball Ambrose, followed by the Ryder Cup Challenge (alternate shot) and ended with 4 Ball Ambrose.
The day was an outstanding success with teams travelling from as far as Lithgow whilst other players at the start questioning whether it could be played in a day, but were happy to support such a great cause. One comment, was “I’m stuffed, but I’ll be back next year with several others”.
I decided on the challenge as a means of showing support to all those kids who face personal challenges everyday where this golf challenge is just one day out of 365.
Books in Homes Australia’s aim for the event was to have secured enough support so that an additional 240 kids could participate in the programme in 2016. Not only did the event achieve this result but it was also able to add an additional 60 kids to the programme due to the generous support of those that took part in the event and continued to donate funds during the evening dinner. The schools that will benefit from this support are:
- Lakemba Public School in Western Sydney
- St Michaels Primary in North Melbourne
- Nowa Nowa Primary School in Victoria
- The Entrance Public School and
- Brooke Avenue Public School, both located on the NSW Central Coast
Thank you to all the sponsors!
