We’d like to welcome you to our monthly E-Zine—The Bridge: Connections Through Reading!
The goal of The Bridge is to keep our supporters up to date with all things Books in Homes, including important dates and stories from across Australia—maybe you’ll learn something new about a community at the other side of this vast wonderful country of ours.
Indeed, we were inspired to name our ezine The Bridge after receiving one such story from Janet Westcott—Instructional Leader of K-2 and Books in Homes Coordinator at Walgett Community College Primary School in NSW.
There are around 150 students on the Books in Homes Programme at Walgett Community College Primary School, and it’s during their Book Giving Assembly in Term 1, 2014 where this story takes place. As told by Janet:
We could not agree more! The Walgett teachers and community understand the idea at the heart of Books in Homes—learning how to read gives you the power of choice! Whether it’s the choice of a book, a choice of a job, or just the simple choice to cross a bridge—when you can read, that choice is yours!
